WHAT IS ENGINEERING?

Engineering is the application of mathematics, empirical evidence and scientific, economic, social and practical knowledge in order to design, invent, build, maintain, research and improve structures, machines, buildings, systems, materials, components, tools, technology and processes.

 In a simple way engineering is a bridge between science & technology and the needs of the society.
Science allows us to gain an understanding of relaity, of human nature and of the universe. Engineering allows this understanding to come to life through problem solving,  designing & building things.
In other words, Engineering can be simply defined as the application of scientific knowledge to practical problems.

A Physicist Freeman Dyson in 1981 wrote in his Book “ Disturbing the Universe " :-  “ A Good Scientist is a person with original ideas. A Good Engineer is a person who makes a design that works with as few original ideas as possible. "
According to the Albert Einstein one of the World's greatest Scientist :- “ Scientists investigate that which already is and Engineers create that which has never been.

The History of Engineering is part and parcel of the history of human civilization. The Pyramids of Giza, Stonehenge, the Parthenon and the Eiffel Tower stand today as Monuments to our heritage of Engineering.

Today's Engineers not only build huge Structures, such as the International Space Station, but they are also building maps to the human genone and better smaller Computer Chips.
Engineering explained :- From Mobile phones to the Burj Khalifa (The world's tallest building),  computer games and toothpaste to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Aeroplanes.

Engineering is one of the cornerstones of STEM education, an interdisciplinary curriculum designed to motivate the students to learn about Science,  Technology,  Engineering & Mathematics.

WHAT DOES AN ENGINEER DO?
Engineer designs, evaluate, develop, modify, inspect, install, test and maintain a wide variety of products and systems.
They also recommend and specify the materials and processes,  supervise construction and manufacturing,  conduct failure analysis,  provide consulting services and teach engineering courses in Colleges and Universities.
The field of Engineering is divided into large number of specific areas which are as under :-

* Electrical Engineering
* Electronics Engineering
* Mechanical Engineering
* Automobile Engineering
* Civil Engineering
* Aerospace Engineering
* Nuclear Engineering
* Biomedical Engineering
* Chemical Engineering
* Industrial Engineering
* Environmental Engineering
* Architectural Engineering
* Robotics Engineering
* Petroleum Engineering
* Mining Engineering
* Mechatronics Engineering
* Agricultural Engineering
* Manufacturing Engineering
* Computer Engineering
* Instrument and Control Engineering

CONCLUSION
Engineer can be distinguished from other professions by their ability to solve complex problem and implement solutions in cost effective and practical ways. This ability to face a problem,  work through various thoughts and abstract ideas and then translating them into reality is what is so exciting about Engineering.
